This carbon-framed version comes with hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano Ultegra gearing, and a number of features tailored to smaller riders, such as brake/gear shifters that sit closer to the bars and have a larger pad, making them simpler to operate with tiny hands.

The ride is light, accurate, and agile, comfortable over long racing distances, and a lot of fun, but bad terrain may make it unpleasant.

We tried the 2023 model, however there is now a newer model for 2023.

Women’s road and adventure bikes buyer’s guide

The correct road bike may make all the difference in your comfort and performance, whether you’re trying to log miles, fly up hills, or compete. Even if you want to ride on tougher terrain or need a bike that can handle off-road riding, the newest crop of gravel and adventure bikes will make the move from on-road to off-road excursions seamless.

If you’re unsure which kind of road bike to purchase, our buyer’s guide will help you choose the ideal one for you depending on the type of riding you’ll be doing and your budget.

What distinguishes a road bike?

Road bikes, as the name implies, are intended to be very efficient while riding on hard surfaces such as asphalt and concrete – adventure bikes, for the time being, are an exception.

They usually feature a curved handlebar, often known as a ‘drop handlebar,’ that enables the rider to put their hands in a variety of positions for comfort and efficiency.

Unlike mountain bikes, they will feature a strong frame and, with a few exceptions, no built-in suspension.

Do you like long-distance travel, speed, or adventure?

When you’ve settled on a road bike, the next step is to figure out what type of road bike you’ll need.

Endurance road bikes are built to go long distances in comfort. Some are geared for long-distance races, like as multi-day stage races, while others are geared toward touring.

They usually feature lugs for mudguards and put the rider in a reasonably upright posture. They also have gearing that makes spinning up lengthy hills a bit easier.

Race bikes are built to go as fast as possible. They’ll feature a rigid frame for maximum power transfer from the pedal stroke to the drivetrain, high-speed sprint gearing, and frame geometry that puts the rider in an aggressive posture to allow them to pump out a lot of power.

Adventure or gravel bikes, which are basically road bikes that have been engineered to be ridden off-road, are becoming more popular.

They’re constructed tougher to tackle difficult terrain, with thick tyres for improved traction in wet and muddy situations, and a comfy frame to cushion the rider from the worst of off-road knocks and bumps — some even feature suspension.

They’ll typically feature lots of lugs to enable baggage, such as panniers and frame bags, to be attached to the bike, making them popular for bikepacking and multi-day excursions.

What road and adventure bike should you buy based on your budget?

Once you’ve decided what kind of bike you want, the next question is how much you can get for your money.

Good road bikes start at about £600 / €660 / $780. Aluminum frames with a decent entry-level 2x groupset, such as Shimano Sora, are common.

At about £1,100 / €1,220 / $1,445 a bike, hydraulic disc brakes will be standard, providing excellent wet-weather braking performance.

Bikes with excellent quality carbon frames and higher-level gear groupsets, like as Shimano Ultegra, start around £2,000 / €2,200 / $2,600. At £2,500 / €2,800 / $3,300, electronic gearing begins to emerge.

If you want to save money, try purchasing a bike from a prior model year or searching for a used bike. If you decide to purchase a used bike, be sure you read our guide on purchasing a used bike to ensure you get a good deal rather than a dud.

Is it necessary for me to ride a bike designed specifically for women?

The simple answer is no, but they are more comfortable for many women, so they are worth investigating.

The only distinction on some women’s-specific bikes is a specially built saddle. This may have a big impact on comfort, but it’s also something you can alter later if you don’t like your new bike’s saddle.

Other women’s bikes are made specifically for ladies and have a distinct frame design. This is a strategy used by both Liv and Canyon.
